New day, new start

I wasn’t paying much attention to the new year. On the 31st December, I was in bed by 9.40pm and asleep by 10.30pm. 🙂

But in the Lord’s day meeting on 1st January, one brother’s shared something that was a little related to the new year. Actually he had mentioned this to us in the WST office during the previous week, but I am glad he respoke it!

Three revolutions

He pointed out that at this time every year, three revolutions take place:

  1. The revolution of the earth around the sun — this happens yearly.
  2. The revolution of the moon around the earth — this happens monthly.
  3. The revolution of the earth around its own axis — this happens daily.

This is quite interesting. But there is also a spiritual significance, and that is of a new start. He shared some examples of how precious it is that we don’t live in one long day, but our life is made up of many days. This means many new starts! We may mess up our day before it is even half done, and yet there is night, and there is morning — another day.

Actually, this speaking comes from one of Witness Lee’s books, God’s Need and God’s Goal, which my sister is right now lying on the bed and reading. I think she highly recommends it!

Resolutions in heart

We also have the new year to have a new start. If you don’t make it into university one year it is not the end of the world, there is next year to try again.

Well on the one hand, making new years resolutions is not the solution to our problems (read the truth question Will It Work This Year?). Yet on the other hand, a new year is the opportunity for new beginnings and new resolutions in heart (Judges 5:15b).

So, I have lapsed somewhat since I last mentioned my Life-study reading. I am thinking that maybe I shouldn’t talk about it so much, because it seems like whenever I do, I stop reading! But I thought I would mention that I am planning to start again. The Living To Him website is encouraging us to take this next month to read the Life-Study of First Thessalonians, so I have signed up and will endeavour to do so. Lord, make me faithful!

And here’s a little hymn that has been running through my head all day.

New day, new start — Oh, I love the Lord.
His way, my heart — Yes, I love the Lord.
Rise up spirit, soul, body so the day can start!
God is moving on today and I have a heart.

Sorry, hymnal.net doesn’t have this one, so no melody for you! But here’s a related song that you can sing along to: Every new day’s a new start.
